The difference between an emotion and a feeling.

The difference between

an emotion and a feeling.

A life lesson.

Emotions are complex neurophysiological reactions the body has to certain stimuli. They occurs automatically and unconsciously.

Feelings, by contrast, are our conscious perception of all those changes happening in the body, where we then assign a value/meaning to the emotion.

Raw emotions are natural, how we choose to express our them is learned. The reason it’s so important to understand that emotions are unconscious and also natural is so that we can let go of judging them. Yet at the same time learn new strategies for emotional expression.

The fact that when a lion is approaching you, your body experiences the emotion of fear has nothing to do with the ego. It’s an evolutionary phenomena that ensures that our species will survive the environmental challenges.
